Nõmme Kalju earned a well-deserved 3:0 victory over Pärnu Linnameeskond on a sunny Tuesday evening at Hiiu Stadium.
Kalju started the match with dominating possession and opened the scoring at minute 37 when Ats Purje headed the ball home from a deep cross by Karl Mööl. Kalju continued with pressure and scored a demoralising second goal with the last touch of the first half. The goal was scored by Artjom Dmitrijev.
The second half continued where the first left off – Mööl hit the crossbar with a powerful long shot. A few minutes later Damiano Quintieri crossed the ball to Tarmo Neemelo who hit the bar. The next goal didn’t take long after – Quintieri sent an accurate cross to Dmitrijev’s feet who only had to touch the ball to get his second goal of the match. The match continued with chances from both sides with Kalju goalkeeper Vitali Teleš saving the team from the worst.
Nõmme Kalju goalkeeping coach Jüris Sahkur was happy with his team but also praised the opponents: “We completely controlled the first half. Pärnu played much better in the second half but our goalkeeper was solid between the posts.”
Charismatic and in a good mood as always Jorge Rodrigues found the result as expected: “We often see the big Premium league teams lose points, there are no easy matches. We can make it easy for ourselves by preparing well during the week and use what we’ve learned in the match. I’m happy with the whole team’s play because we won and kept a clean sheet.”
The scorer of two goals Artjom Dmitrijev didn’t overemphasise his own performance: “It was good that we won and played well as a team. The next match against Levadia will be important since we’re tied at the top of the table. We are definitely going for a win”
The match against Levadia will be played next Tuesday at 20.00 at Hiiu Stadium.
